Photos of Nic by Serena Kirby (LHS) and De Strange (RHS)

Hello

I’m Nic Duncan. If you’re familiar with my work, you’ll know my passion is storytelling through photography; taking portraits of people, the places they live in, and documenting the different lives we all lead…celebrating community, and life beyond the traffic lights.

Photography opens doors to all sorts of interesting people, places and situations whether it’s working as stills photographer on films and tv series, documenting arts projects or having fun with personal projects.

I’m always on the look out for community events in regional, rural and remote places which always offer great photo opportunities, and love doing ‘Day in the-life’ sessions…musterers or shearers, the volunteers at the local op shop, the truckie’s weekly delivery run, artists, craftspeople, fishers or tradies. Whoever and whatever makes up life in our rural and remote communities.

The State Library of Western Australia acquires many of my portraits which are held in a permanent collection.

So tell me…Is there a particular little WA town or enormous pastoral lease I should try to get to? An event not to be missed? Or a fantastic character I should try to meet? I’m always happy to share photos with those who let me loose with my camera! A win-win :-) Let me know what’s happening in your neck of the woods—I’d love to hear from you!

Equally do you know of anyone who may need photos for their websites, social media etc? Whether they’re setting up a station stay or have a small home-based business in a remote area, I can create their very own unique ‘stock library’ of images. Perhaps a family may be interested in having a photo session on their own property (without having to pay travel expenses for a professional photographer to get there); if so, please let me know, and I can try to tie it in with other travel plans. Bonus points if you can help me find a spot to park up my camper - I’m completely self-contained and happy to tuck in by a rocky outcrop, or behind an old shearing shed.

If you’ve got some ideas and suggestions I’d love to hear from you, and please spread the word among your friends and contacts.

You can follow my adventures on Facebook and Instagram and keep an eye on my travel journal.
